[Metadatalibrarians] DOIs for compound objects

Hello, Colleagues:

I'm interested in hearing about your practices for assigning DOIs to
compound objects, such as those found in a digital library or institutional
repository--for example, multiple years of a biannual newsletter that are
contained in one PDF file.

Would you (a) assign one DOI for the PDF/newsletter, or (b) assign
individual DOIs to each newsletter issue contained within the PDF?

I lean toward the latter but would appreciate hearing others' thoughts.
