The University of North Carolina Wilmington's Randall Library is seeking applicants for a Cataloging & Metadata Librarian.

This is an 11-month (July - May), renewable, non-tenure track special faculty position reporting to the Associate Director Library Technical Services and Collection Management.

As a library faculty member, this position will:

  *   Provide in-person and on-call research help during scheduled Research Help Desk shifts, providing individual research assistance in person, by phone, email, and chat
  *   Support the mission and strategic plan of Randall Library and as such engage and participate in library-wide meetings, committees, and decision-making
  *   Participate in university and professional activities, including research, conference presentations, publications, service, and other evidence of scholarly activity
  *   Keep current with developments in librarianship, particularly in areas related to Technical Services and Collection Management
  *   Understand and promote Randall Library's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

Upon initial appointment, this position will:

  *   Perform original and complex description, cataloging, and record maintenance for a broad range of formats, including non-English language materials, using current and appropriate descriptive and encoding standards *
  *   Perform cataloging of physical materials for Special Collections and Archives *
  *   Catalog Electronic Theses & Dissertations and Honors papers, involving original cataloging and in-depth subject analysis, as well as metadata export between the Sierra ILS, WorldCat, and CONTENTdm *
  *   Catalog and load metadata for single title ebooks, streaming media, and other digital objects into the Sierra ILS and other discovery services *
  *   Contribute to maintenance of authority control for the library catalog *
  *   Collaborate with the Coordinator of Library Cataloging in providing training, oversight, and guidance to library staff performing cataloging or metadata activities *
  *   Maintain knowledge of current and emerging national and international standards for cataloging and metadata, including RDA, LCSH, LC Classification, BIBFRAME, linked data, and other appropriate standards *
  *   Maintain knowledge of non-MARC metadata and evolving cataloging standards and best practices associated with critical cataloging
  *   Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  *   ALA-Accredited Master's degree in library and information sciences.
  *   Demonstrated experience with cataloging and metadata

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  *   Experience in an academic or research library
  *   Experience with record creation and editing in an integrated library system, preferably III's Sierra.
  *   Knowledge and understanding of emerging practices, standards, and trends relating to cataloging and metadata management in an academic library environment.
  *   Understanding of linked data standards and applications
  *   Demonstrated strong service orientation and skills
  *   Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment with a diverse population of faculty, staff, students, and colleagues
  *   Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills using a variety of media and technologies
  *   Demonstrated analytical and organizational skills with an attention to detail
  *   Demonstrated understanding of the value of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace
