LIBRARIAN IV - Technology Content and Innovation

Salary: $69,444/Annually
DUTIES: Reporting to the Assistant Chief of Technology, Content and Innovation, provide direction and strategic management for Technical Services Department, including cataloging and metadata, database management, physical processing and bindery. Demonstrate advanced understanding and knowledge of cataloging and classification standards and principles, including but not limited to: RDA, LRM, AACR2, LC/PCC PS, LC classification, LCSH, MARC21 bibliographic and authority formats, Dublin Core and linked data. Have familiarity with library materials processing, shelf-ready library materials and bindery workflows. Identify, formulate and assess priorities and procedures for areas of responsibility, and work closely and collaboratively with other library staff and departments to ensure efficient workflows and high-quality patron experience. Possess ability to adapt quickly to new standards and technologies, and skills to lead technical services staff through workflow assessment to improve department efficiency and user access and discovery. Demonstrate commitment to inclusivity and user-centered service, ensuring that the description of library materials reflects and supports the diversity of library service populations and collections. Exhibit self-motivation with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and manage changing priorities. Participate actively on cross-functional committees, and in local, regional and national professional associations. Supervise staff of 16, including librarians, clerks and data entry operators. Set department goals and objectives, establish levels of expected performance and productivity, and conduct performance evaluations. Interpret library guidelines, procedures and practices for staff and general public. Monitor budget expenditures. Prepare department statistics and work reports. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited American Library Association college or university with a Master's degree in Library Science or an approved foreign credential evaluation supplemented by three years of progressively responsible professional library experience including one year of supervisory experience.

Residency Requirement: All employees of the City of Chicago must be actual residents of the City as outlined in 2-152-050 of the City of Chicago Municipal Code. Proof of residency will be required.
LOCATION: 400 S. State Street- Harold Washington Library Center- Technology Content & Innovation Department
DAYS OFF: Saturday and Sunday
SHIFT: Monday- Friday 8:30- 5:00
HOURS: 37.5 hours per week to be scheduled during normal unit hours
