Position Announcement: Director of Cataloging and Metadata Services
Cornell University Library (Ithaca, NY)
The Director of Cataloging & Metadata Services (CMS) provides leadership, guidance, expertise, and encouragement to a department whose mission is to enable and enhance discovery and access to library resources to meet the research and teaching needs of one of the nation’s premier universities. Currently comprising 21 staff, including 10 librarians, CMS is responsible for cataloging at all levels (though primarily original) and in all formats and languages for Cornell’s subject libraries, including rare books and music, but excluding law. In addition, the department’s metadata staff provide expert consultation, development, and production services for the use of non-MARC metadata in digital projects; for the sharing, re-use, and preservation of metadata in various formats; for the curation of research data in diverse subject areas; and for the library’s web archiving program. CMS is also currently engaged in the investigation of new models for identity management and in data modeling and ontology development in conjunction with grant-funded linked data research.
