Call for Proposals: Transforming MARC for a Linked Data Age: ALA Core Interest Group Week 2025

Dear Colleagues,

The ALA Core MARC Formats Transition Interest Group invites you to submit a presentation proposal for the 2025 ALA Core IG Week. Our session will take place online on March 6, 2025, from 3-4 pm (CST)/4-5pm (EST)/1-2pm (PST).

This session will explore participants’ experiences with the MARC format’s transition to the linked data environment. We welcome proposals addressing diverse aspects of this exciting transformation.

Theme: Transforming MARC for a Linked Data Age

Possible topics could include (but are not limited to):

  *
Case Studies in MARC-to-Linked Data Conversion

  *
Cataloging in a Linked Data Environment or on Platforms (e.g., Sinopia, BIBFRAME Editor)

  *
Strategies for Transitioning Library Workflows from MARC to Linked Data

  *   Enhancing Discoverability with Linked Data

  *   Tools and Technologies for MARC-to-Linked Data Transformation

  *   Linked Data Training and Education for MARC Catalogers and Metadata Librarians

  *   Future of Metadata Standards Beyond MARC

Each presenter will be allotted 15 minutes, plus time for Q&A. Please include in your proposal the following information:

1.  Presentation title

2.  Presenter name(s), affiliation & email address(es)

3.  A brief summary of the topic (250 words or less)

Please submit your proposal to the IG Co-chairs, Sai Deng (sai.deng at ucf.edu<mailto:sai.deng at ucf.edu>) and Crystal Yragui (cec23 at uw.edu<mailto:cec23 at uw.edu>) by Monday, February 3, 2025.
