[Metadatalibrarians] Reminder: Call for Metadata Interest Group Round Table Discussion Topics and Facilitators at ALA Annual 2024

A friendly reminder: The ALA Core Metadata Interest Group (MIG) seeks roundtable discussion topics and facilitators for its in-person meeting at the 2024 ALA Annual Conference. We’re requesting proposals by May 31, 2024.

Roundtable discussions are small, informal group discussions intended to give participants the opportunity to network, discuss best practices, and share their insights and experiences. Discussion facilitators are responsible for identifying and developing a topic, creating discussion questions, facilitating a discussion and sharing back to the larger group.

The meeting will take place on Sunday, June 30 from 11 am-12 pm Pacific Time at the Marriott Marquis, Marina Salon D. The theme of the discussions will be “Metadata for Non-Print Library Resources.” Potential discussion topics, which may focus on MARC or non-MARC metadata, include, but are not limited to description of:

  *   Three-dimensional artifacts or naturally occurring objects (e.g., globes, anatomical models, games, textiles, plant seeds, streaming devices, cookware, and other Library of Things items)
  *   Digitized or born-digital materials for digital libraries
  *   Online research datasets
  *   Streaming media

Discussions may cover any aspect of the description of non-print resources, including schemas and standards, projects, workflows, and creative solutions.

Those interested in participating as a discussion facilitator should submit a short proposal (no more than 250 words) that includes:

  *   The topic you wish to explore related to description of non-print items
  *   A brief abstract describing the topic
  *   Three sample discussion questions
