Management *
*Position Summary**: *NJIT University Library seeks a collaborative,
creative, forward-thinking individual to serve as an Assistant University
Librarian for Resource Sharing and Collection Management (AUL). Reporting
to the University Librarian, the AUL has the overall responsibility for
resource sharing (access and use of the collections), and resource
management (acquire and integrate materials into the collection), including
oversight for a team of librarians and staff. The AUL ensures the library
collection portfolio is available and accessible to the needs of the
students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders. The AUL is expected to
participate actively in strategic planning, policy development, budget
planning, communication, and assessment of library operations to increase
operational effectiveness; and thinking openly and collaboratively to
produce new library initiatives that support student learning, faculty
teaching and research.
*Qualifications Summary**: *The ideal candidate must have a Master’s degree
in library or information sciences from an ALA-accredited institution or
its equivalent and minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible
experience in areas related to this position, at least two (2) years of
which must include administration/management in higher education.
Demonstrated experience with budget planning, project planning, and
development and application of innovative approaches to resource sharing
services, access services, and collection management services operations.
Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability
to carry out projects in a timely manner and ability to manage concurrent
tasks. Effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;
well-developed assessment and analytical skills and the ability to
anticipate and adapt to priorities and the changing needs of an academic
library. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and
students in a multicultural and diverse environment.
*Library Profile**: *The Robert W. Van Houten Library, NJIT’s university
library, houses a core collection of print books, group study rooms and has
an Information Commons computer lab with more than 120 computer
workstations and wireless access throughout the building. The Barbara and
Leonard Littman Architecture and Design Library, a branch of the university
library, maintains a core collection of architecture, art and design
resources. The university libraries operate with a budget of $4.5 million
and spend over 94% of the materials budget to acquire electronic resources
for anytime, anywhere access. A diverse staff of 24, who are committed to
developing innovations in access services, information literacy and digital
initiatives. The collection comprises over 390,000 volumes with 34
full-text databases, over 63,000 unique electronic journals, 185,000 ebooks
and 223,000 physical holdings. The Libraries support six colleges, 125
undergraduate and graduate degree programs, including 19 PhD programs. The
Libraries use Ex Libris Alma and Primo Discovery, OCLC, ILLiad and
RapidILL, and Digital Commons.
