The J. Paul Leonard Library at San Francisco State University offers an
exciting opportunity for a tenure-track Head of Collection Management
Services position at the rank of Senior Assistant or Associate Librarian
beginning August 2019.

We seek a colleague who will provide leadership, vision, and support to the
library’s Collection Management Services division. The successful candidate
will oversee the division’s administrative functions, including
coordinating budget, personnel, and equipment requests; maintaining
division policies, procedures, and workflows; and providing lead work
direction to staff.

We are especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute,
through their research, primary responsibilities, and/or service, through
diversity, to the excellence of the academic community.

The J. Paul Leonard Library is a busy, teaching-oriented institution
supporting a community of 30,000 students as well as faculty and staff. The
collections include more than one million items in all formats, including
an extensive collection of online databases and full-text resources.

Librarians have full faculty status and are expected to meet faculty
requirements for tenure and promotion. The library faculty is committed to
providing mentoring and support to tenure track colleagues. The successful
candidate will play a key role in helping to shape the future of the

Responsibilities:

The Head of Collection Management Services provides progressive leadership
and direction to the library collection management services division. The
Head of Collection Management Services oversees and provides vision and
leadership for division activities, including acquisition, cataloging and
processing materials in all formats; managing the collections budget;
developing division policies and procedures; audit reporting; and
coordinating and providing collection reports and statistics to the
library, the university, and the CSU. In addition, library faculty members
are expected to engage in scholarship and service to the university and the

Qualifications:

Required-
●ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or
equivalent.
●Demonstrated leadership experience, such as implementing and initiating
projects to improve library services, programs, processes, etc.
●Demonstrated experience with and extensive knowledge of some aspect of
technical services (e.g., cataloging and/or acquisitions)
●Record of working and communicating effectively with colleagues and
students

Preferred-

●Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to
carry out complex projects, implement programs and resolve problems in a
rapidly changing environment.
•Demonstrated knowledge of cataloging and metadata standards, authority
work, quality control for library collections, and emerging library
technologies and trends with a commitment to continuous learning.
●Experience providing lead work direction to library staff and leading
projects and teams, including strong problem-solving and project management
skills.
●Experience with managing collections budgets and providing budgetary
oversight.
●Evidence of flexibility, innovative thinking, creativity and initiative.
●Ability to work independently and as a member or leader of a team.
●Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with a diverse
population of students, faculty, and staff; incorporate inclusion,
diversity, and educational equity into primary assignment, scholarship,
and/or service responsibilities; contribute to a supportive, and
collaborative work environment; and experience working closely with
students from historically underrepresented communities.

Rank and Salary:

Senior Assistant or Associate Librarian. Salary commensurate with
qualifications and experience. The California State University (CSU)
