Columbia University Libraries (CUL) seeks an innovative and energetic
Digital Projects librarian to coordinate and participate in technical
project planning and implementation of significant, high-visibility
digitization and digital publishing projects involving the Libraries’ rich
research collections.

As part of the Digital Library and Scholarly Technologies (DLST) group, the
incumbent will work with Columbia’s special and archival collections staff
and other Libraries and University staff in planning for and implementation
of new digital collections and online exhibition projects.

Working collaboratively, this full-time librarian position will participate
in project review, analysis, development, planning and assessment. Under
the guidance of Head of Digital Collections and Preservation System, the
incumbent will work on improving workflows and procedures for digital
library projects as they relate to the Columbia’s Digital Library
Collections Portal, the Libraries metadata management system (Hyacinth),
Omeka and potential new platforms. The incumbent will participate in the
planning and development of updated and new workflows, as well as
procedures for handling born and delivered-digital archival content based
on recommendations of the the Libraries’ Born-Digital Strategic Initiative
Working Group.

The Digital Project Librarian will provide advice and consulting to other
units within Columbia University Libraries and campus-wide in areas related
to the digital library and scholarly technologies. The incumbent will
provide technology support and systems analysis for DLST systems and
services that support faculty collaborations. This position will
participate in secondary assignments based on qualifications, interests,
and institutional need.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


   -

   Coordinate, support and empower Library staff to deploy digital library
   projects. Enable and ensure the smooth operation and successful
   implementation of digital projects within a highly collaborative
   environment.
   -

   Participate in project review, analysis, development, planning and
   assessment, working as a team member with Libraries curatorial and
   technical staff, faculty and external vendors.
   -

   Carries out the creation, ingest, and maintenance of digital library
   metadata and content by applying relevant national and international
   standards and accommodating local needs in coordination with Original
   Cataloging and Metadata Services Department and other relevant departments.
   -

   Contribute to formal grant proposals, requests for vendor proposals, and
   grant reports.
   -

   Provide advice and consulting to other units within CUL and campus-wide
   in areas related to the Digital Libraries and Scholarly Technologies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


   -

   Masters Degree in library / computer science or equivalent.
   -

   Knowledge of library digital technology systems & services.
   -

   Knowledge of digital libraries standards.
   -

   Knowledge of metadata standards & principles.
   -

   Experience working in digital library / digital humanities technology
   projects.
   -

   Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills;
   ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
   -

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


   -

   Advanced academic degree in a subject area requiring research or
   scholarship.
   -

   Ability to think strategically and envision new and complex knowledge
   systems and services.
   -

   Knowledge of current digital library technologies such as Fedora,
   Samvera, Hyrax, etc.
   -

   Familiarity with digital project management methodologies and tools,
   such as Jira.
   -

   Experience working with tools for metadata remediation and data
   normalization.
