[Metadatalibrarians] Any OCLC Digital Gateway experiences?

I haven't worked with BE Press DigitalCommons going into OCLC via the Digital Gateway, but, from my experience harvesting OAI feeds out of DigitalCommons repositories for the Mountain West Digital Library regional portal, I know that the "qualified-dublin-core" metadata format in the DigitalCommons OAI feeds is different from the metadata format specified by the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative.  BE Press applies its own proprietary schema, http://www.bepress.com/assets/xsd/oai_qualified_dc.xsd, which formats the usual QDC refinements differently, e.g., "dc:date.created" instead of the expected "dcterms:created", and adds its own new elements and refinements, such as "dc:thesis.degree.grantor" and "dc:coverage.spatial.lat". While this may be useful for some purposes somewhere, it certainly interferes with services based on internationally accepted schemata and protocols, like OCLC's DG service and MWDL's aggregation service.

   Thank you for your reply because that is EXACTLY what happened to me. Even though they claim they can harvest QDC, and I have contacted them many times, they cannot at least from the feed in Digital Commons. They only accept a plain base URL in oai-dc that cannot display results in QDC. I confirmed my suspicions.

Hi Marielle,

I use the OCLC DG and it doesn't take qualified DC, at least as of six months ago it didn't anyway. The instructions  I wrote to myself are as follows: 

If we choose qualified (attempt to map) DC within the Gateway, we'll get an error that says the first level metadata cannot be validated, and nothing will go in. The developers at OCLC are aware of this. 
If you use OCLC DG, you have to accept that it will only take unqualified DC.

  Has anybody here used the OCLC Digital Gateway to harvest metadata from BePress Digital Commons software to send to OCLC in qualified Dublin core? If so, have you been successful? If not, could you please tell me your story or share any experience you have had with it? Would like to know. :)  I have had success harvesting with the MarcEdit Harvesting tool, which is excellent, but not so much with the OCLC Digital Gateway.
