Thing-athon: strings and things in RDA and linked data
The Thing-athon is the next iteration of the successful Jane-athons that used Jane Austen and her works to explore metadata creation using RDA: Resource Description and Access and the RDA editor RIMMF ina MARC-free environment. The Thing-athon embraces that same mission but changes the focus to some of the unique problems faced by research libraries, repositories and rare materials collections. The Thing-athon will be a unique opportunity for catalogers, developers, archivists, and metadata specialists to examine the key questions related to metadata creation and exchange. Be sure to make the Thing-athon part of your Midwinter plans. You do not have to attend the conference to take part in this event.

The Thing-athon is as a ticketed event<http://2016.alamidwinter.org/ticketedevents> at ALA Midwinter 2016 in Boston and will take place on Thursday, January 7, 2016, at the Lamont Library on the campus of Harvard University in Cambridge. It will be a day-long event, running from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Refreshments and a pizza lunch will be provided.
