Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor and Resource Access Librarian

The University Library of the University of Illinois at Chicago seeks an 
energetic and knowledgeable librarian to provide cataloging and metadata 
expertise.  The Resource Access Librarian will create, review and edit 
cataloging and metadata for all types of library materials as well as 
training and advising others.  The position will work with colleagues in 
the Resource Acquisition and Management (RAM) Department and throughout 
the library as an expert on cataloging and metadata, as well as 
contribute to the discovery of library materials through original and 
complex copy cataloging.  The successful candidate will be a vital part 
of the department management team.  This is a clinical faculty position 
with research and publication expectations.

The University of Illinois at Chicago is a Carnegie RU/VH institution 
located near the Chicago Loop, with a student enrollment of 27,000 and 
offering doctoral degrees in 60 areas and master’s degrees in nearly 80. 
  The Library is part of the statewide CARLI consortial integrated 
library system.  The RAM Department provides cataloging, acquisitions, 
serials, and electronic resources management services to all sites of 
the UIC Library, including the Richard J. Daley Library and the four 
Libraries of the Health Sciences.


KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Provide departmental and library-wide leadership and expertise 
relating to cataloging and metadata for description and discovery

·       Perform original and complex copy cataloging using LC 
Classification, LCSH, NLM Classification, and MeSH

·       Work with a wide variety of library materials, including Special 
Collections and other unique items

·       Develop workflows and train library personnel in cataloging and 
metadata creation and maintenance

·       Participate in NACO and local authority control for library 
databases

·       Serve as part of departmental faculty leadership team

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

·       Master’s degree in Library Science from a program accredited by 
the American Library Association

·       Two years of professional library experience or equivalent 
professional experience

·       Experience working with MARC metadata in a library setting

·       Knowledge of current cataloging rules and standards (including 
RDA), LC Classification, and Library of Congress Subject Headings.

·       Demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues, staff, 
and users

·       Excellent communication and interpersonal skills contributing to 
a collaborative environment

·       Keen analytical and problem-solving skills

·       Evidence of ability to meet University standards in publication 
and professional service commensurate with appointment as a clinical 
faculty member.


ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

·       Knowledge of linked data and semantic web concepts and related 
technologies

·       Experience in a large academic library

·       Knowledge of NLM Classification and MeSH.

·       Experience with non-MARC metadata (Dublin Core, EAD, etc.)

·       Experience using the Voyager integrated library system

SALARY/RANK/CONTRACT:

Salary and rank dependent upon qualifications and experience.   Faculty 
status; twelve month appointment; 24 days of vacation; 12 days annual 
sick leave with additional disability benefits; 11 paid holidays; 
medical and dental insurance (with employee contribution); participation 
in one of the retirement options of the Illinois State Universities
