[Metadatalibrarians] Guidelines for metadata planning and decision-making?

Last year I sent out a call on the listserv (see below) for any guidelines that institutions had created for university or public audiences on issues such as authority control, data structure planning, how to assess the impact and cost of data cleanup projects, and how to create and maintain documentation for metadata-related projects. Several people mentioned that they would like to see our guidelines once they were created. So for anyone interested, here is the main link to the resources that we eventually made: https://staff.lib.ncsu.edu/confluence/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=19664714

We've labeled these "Metadata & Cataloging Consultation Services" and have four pages with more info:

* Authority control decision-making https://staff.lib.ncsu.edu/confluence/display/MNC/brief+guidelines+on+authority+control+decision-making
* Minimal metadata planning
https://staff.lib.ncsu.edu/confluence/display/MNC/guidelines+on+minimal+metadata+planning
* Data structure planning
https://staff.lib.ncsu.edu/confluence/display/MNC/guidelines+on+data+structure+planning
* Documenting metadata-related projects and workflows (includes Word template for documentation)

Hi folks,

The Metadata & Cataloging at NCSU is embarking on a project to produce a set of guidelines to aid other departments within our Libraries in decision-making for metadata-related activities such as decisions about authority control, data structure planning, how to assess the impact and cost of data cleanup projects, and how to create and maintain documentation for metadata-related projects. Before we re-invent the wheel, I'm rounding up any such resources that other institutions have created. Please let me know if you've seen or developed guidelines on the following topics:

* Guidelines to aid Libraries staff in decision-making regarding authority control and for locating existing sources of controlled vocabularies

* Guidelines on minimal metadata planning and data structure planning

* Guidelines to aid staff in assessing the relative value of spending time on metadata cleanup

* Guidelines for best practices on creating and maintaining documentation for metadata-related projects (example, documenting sources used for controlled vocabularies)

Thanks,
Joyce
