*Description of Work*

This position manages staff and operations of the Cataloging & Metadata
Services Branch in the State Library s Government & Heritage Library (GHL)
and provides leadership for cataloging and metadata- related activities.
Performs complex cataloging; trains and mentors  cataloging staff;
coordinates metadata record creation; oversees maintenance of controlled
vocabularies and NC authorities; and manages  quality control of MARC and
Dublin Core records in Voyager and CONTENTdm. Actively participates and
lends cataloging knowledge and  expertise to collaborative, cross-functional
library planning & decision-making related to the development, selection,
and implementation of cataloging & metadata rules, standards, &
practices; ILS changes; access interfaces for GHL OPAC and CONTENTdm;
metadata  crosswalks; cataloging & metadata workflows/procedures; NC
authorities; & unified access to print & digital resources.



*Knowledge, Skills and Abilities*

Thorough knowledge of library science practices related to
cataloging, metadata, library systems, and user access; current & emergent
cataloging/metadata rules (AACR2, FRBR, RDA), practices, and
standards (MARC, Dublin Core); Dewey/LC classification; LCSH; proprietary &
open  source ILS options; LC/OCLC cataloging tools; database reports;
and digital content management system & collections. Demonstrated ability
to provide vision for cataloging & metadata services;
formulate, communicate, & implement cataloging strategies to maximize user
access  to GHL collections; lead & manage change; and work collaboratively
in a cross-functional dynamic team environment. Strong skills & ability  to
perform & review original cataloging; write procedures, develop workflows,
and train staff; assess ILS options & cataloging rule  changes; pursue grant
funding; and maintain connections within the profession to keep up with
trends, developments, and changes in  cataloging and metadata rules and
practices.



*Training and Experience Requirements*

Master s degree in library and information science or a related discipline
and three years of professional librarian experience
related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and
experience. Degree must be received from appropriately
accredited (ALA) institutions or regionally accredited programs in North
