[Metadatalibrarians] question--metadata for digitized AV

Hello,
I am relatively new to this list, so apologies if this question has been
asked before. What metadata standard do metadata librarians use or recommend
for digitized audio-video material? We have used PBCore, but I am somewhat
reluctant to always use this as a default standard for such material type,
given that the PBCore web site mentions it being for use "by public
broadcasters and related communities." (Are universities considered "related
communities"? Is my concern unfounded?)
Would METS be a viable alternative, especially given LC's AV Project:
http://www.loc.gov/rr/mopic/avprot/metsmenu2.html?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Richard
