Dear Brad,
I am wondering whether you have assembled all the papers for the special
issue of CCQ.
Would it be possible for you to consider my proposal now? I am working on a
paper that implement OAI-PMH and XML in cataloging workflow. I will include
the introduction of my paper below. I understand that it is too late to ask
you to do that.
Thank you for your consideration,
mj

The mass book digitization project produces a large number of electronic
resources for the library, especially for the Cataloging Unit at Technical
Services Division since it is responsible for providing access to the
resources that the library has. The Cataloging Unit needs to resolve two
issues in order to provide access to these resources. First, since all of
the digitized books have their original counterparts, the library must deal
with an old cataloging policy issue in terms of how to provide access, i.e.,
by adding the uniform resource identifier of the electronic book to the
pre-existing print record (the single record approach) or by creating a new
record for the e-book (the separate record approach). Second, regardless of
cataloging policy, Cataloging Unit must create e-book records or upgrade the
print records in mass, i.e., must work with new technology to develop
workflows that would create/upgrade records in some automated fashion.
This paper will discuss how the University of Illinois (UIUC) Library
decided to adopt the separate record approach for access to all of the
e-books produced by the different digitization projects, and introduces the
automated workflows using the Open Archives Initiatives Protocol for
Metadata Harvesting and Extensible Markup Language that make it possible to
provide access to e-books digitized by UIUC and other institutions in a
timely manner.
