[Metadatalibrarians] Job Announcement: Digital Metadata Librarian for contract position (Washington, DC)

LAC seeks a Digital Metadata Librarian to work on a government contract position in Washington, DC. The Librarian's responsibilities will include using the client's web-based application to create descriptive metadata tags for digital items, assist with controlled vocabularies, and documenting standards and practices. Position subject to award.

RESPONSIBILITIES

 *   Create descriptive metadata tags for digital objects including books, manuscripts, photographs, cartographic materials, audio, and video, using the Library's metadata standards.
 *   Assist in the maintenance of controlled vocabularies.
 *   Assist in documenting Library's metadata standards and practices.
 *   Assist in transferring metadata to be translated.

QUALIFICATIONS


 *   An M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent.
 *   Demonstrated experience with digital libraries.
 *   Strong technical skills and problem-solving abilities.
 *   Knowledge of the following metadata standards: MARC, MODS, METS, Dublin Core.
 *   Knowledge of current cataloging rules and standards, Library of Congress subject headings and classification (LCC, DCC).
 *   Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse constituencies.
 *   Demonstrated ability to work quickly and accurately in a service and production-oriented environment.
 *   Excellent oral and written communication skills.
 *   Experience with languages in addition to English.
