The Digital Asset Management (DAM) project is a grant-funded

toward mandatory laptop requirement in the classroom, the development
of online environments that encourage cross-program student
collaboration, the use of e-content in instruction and teaching, and
the development of a web presence to highlight the creative output of
MacEwan students and faculty. As part of the DAM project initiative,
the Centre for the Arts and Communications Campus requires a Metadata
Specialist to recommend appropriate metadata standard(s), controlled
vocabularies and workflows for a variety of digital collections that
include audio, text, image, moving image and born digital assets.
Your recommendation will be based on several key criteria including:

· Scalability to include future collection growth.
· Compatibility with other accessible collections and
digitization efforts at the provincial level.
· Accessibility and user needs of MacEwan students, faculty
and staff.

As the successful incumbent you will have:

· a Master’s degree from an accredited ALA Library Science
program,
· working knowledge of traditional cataloguing rules
including MARC and AACR2, controlled vocabularies including LCSH,
CSH, TGN, AAT, TGM I and II, ULAN and
· experience with two or more metadata schema and protocols
such as Dublin Core, EAD, VRA Core, MODS, OAIPMH and METS.

You will have an awareness of:

· current issues and trends in metadata and digital content
management,
· have knowledge and experience using XML and
· previous start-up project experience using digital
management systems such as CONTENTdm or Alfresco.

You are organized, succinct and clear in your written communication
and demonstrate an ability to build consensus.

Reporting to the Project Manager and working closely with members of
the Digital Asset Management project team and concerned faculty, your
primary objectives will be:

· To produce an online document outlining metadata guidelines
for digitized image and audio collections.
· To draft guidelines addressing acquisition, quality control
and copyright issues.
· To pilot a sample database of e-objects.
