technology executives, is a technology professional-services company 
supplying project based consulting, staff augmentation and recruiting

Salary Range: $80,000 – $100,000

Position will lead the development and management of our client’s 
metadata standards. The role requires collaboration with the various 
departments within our client’s to ensure that metadata standards 
support current and evolving content management needs both in physical 
and online/digital product models. This role has overall responsibility 
for ensuring that our client’s metadata standards support the goals of 
enterprise content interoperability, leverage, and reuse.

1. Leads the definition and documentation of descriptive, structural, 
administrative, presentation, and rights metadata standards for Digital 
Asset Management (DAM) and Content Management Systems (CMS).

2. Ensures that metadata standards support our client’s media 
distribution strategy, both now and going forward.

3. Collaborates with various departmental stakeholders to analyze and 
define metadata requirements, product delivery platforms, and content 
and metadata management systems.

4. Creates and maintains Metadata Element Sets (MES) and Metadata 
Application Profiles (MAP) that support and document these requirements.

5. Collaborates with technical and content architects, XML and 
relational data modelers, and other technical resources, supporting 
their translation of metadata requirements into logical and physical 
data models.

6. Creates data profiles (DP) that provide implementers with data 
validation rules/requirements.

7. Monitors industry, competitor, and customer metadata standards, 
practices, and trends, and incorporates these into our client’s metadata 
standards as needed to support rapid and cost effective metadata 
creation, management, and delivery.

8. Establishes and manages communication and effective working 
relationships with our client’s managers, leaders, contractors, and 
project staff. Coordinates project activities between departments and 
contractors.

9. Assists with development of metadata schema, vocabulary, and tagging 
tools.

10. Expands the DAM repository to include all asset properties having 
value to our client. Targets asset groups within our client to validate 
asset collections and develop efficient loading and meta-tagging 
procedures to increase the search and retrieval value of the assets.

11. Develops a solid understanding of the daily operations of the DAM 
system and all ongoing operations including the people, business 
processes, and the technologies employed. (i.e., asset ingest / loading 
and indexing processes, download issues, system backup policy, etc.) 
This will help drive technical strategy and define future projects that 
will support the overall corporate initiatives.

12. Coordinates the intake, identification, storage, loan, and retrieval 
of library media assets

13. Conducts analysis of existing metadata-related processes and creates 
process documentation for existing and improved workflows.

14. Develops long term strategy for how to manage and implement the 
standard metadata schema being developed within various operations groups


Typical Training / Experience – Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or 
related discipline; advanced degree in Library/Information Science or 
related discipline, or equivalent experience, strongly preferred. 
Minimum 6 years of progressively responsible experience in the 
electronic management of information, including content metadata, along 
with implementation of related applications.

Desired skills / Background: Familiarity with and/or member of industry 
standards groups such as SMPTE, AES, ANSI, DVB, Cable Labs, MPEG Forum, 
Open Mobile Alliance, Advanced Access Content System Licensing 
Authority, W3C, etc. Working knowledge of navigation design, content 
modeling, metadata, and search systems combined with in-depth experience 
in at least one of these sub-disciplines. Working knowledge of content 
analysis and content inventory methods and techniques, and 
training/experience in XML and database concepts Excellent knowledge of 
advanced information navigation and retrieval concepts, techniques, and 
practices; familiarity with use of thesauri, taxonomies, name 
authorities, and other vocabularies strongly preferred. Experience with 
Vault and DAM products, systems, processes, and markets; experience with 
design and implementation of Metadata or Master Data environments and 
the implementation of complex, mission critical applications; experience 
with XML, XSLT, XSD, IDE (Eclipse), familiarity with UNIX, PERL; 
experience with relational databases / data warehouses (Oracle, SQL, 
ETL, Informatica). Knowledge of metadata and taxonomy; experience 
tagging media assets with relevant metadata to facilitate storage and 
retrieval of files; deep understanding of the Digital Asset Management 
marketplace including technology, advisers, and partners. Familiarity 
with the following Transmission protocols/products: FTP, XML, Mass 
Transit; knowledge of relevant file storage formats and security 
technologies; experience with digital file management.
